It may surprise some people to know that the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), is one of the main tourist attractions in the area. The campus gets visitors regularly who watch home games of their favorite sports teams and who wish to take a gander at a school that they may want to attend.

Located in a suburb of Las Vegas called Paradise, UNLV is a public research university. Aside from its intensive research programs, UNLV is also known for its topnotch hospitality courses. Famous luminaries have attended many of the school’s major events.

The roots of UNLV can be traced all the way back to 1957. It was founded by the Nevada Board and was called the Southern Division of the University of Nevada. However, it didn’t have a class yet. That would come when the University of Nevada, Reno decided to open a class in Las Vegas High. The first batch of UNLV graduates completed their degrees in 1964. There were 29 students.

Ten years after having its first class, the school was formally named the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, notes Stacey L. Tokunaga.
